Aventon Aventure.2 Review
The Aventon Aventure.2 follows the Pace 350.2, Pace 500.2, and Level.2 as the company’s second-generation e-bikes.
The popular electric bike brand dropped the price of their fat-tire adventurer by $100 while drastically improving the ride quality.
The Aventure.2 is a go-to for riders who want a blend of urban and off-road capabilities, high power, and a full set of commuter components.
This Aventon Aventure.2 review will discuss what’s new, the main features, and ride quality and provide our verdict on whether you should ride or pass.

What’s New for the Aventon Aventure.2
As of January 2023, the Aventure is the latest in the Aventon ebike lineup to be updated to its second generation.
Since its release in mid-2021, this has been one of the most popular fat-tire electric bikes on the US market, competing with models like the RadRover 6 Plus. The notable updates include:
- Switch to torque sensors from cadence sensors
- Slightly more range
- Integrated LED lights with turn indicators
- Switch to Tektro brakes from Zoom
- Rear rack included
Torque sensing is the most impactful change made to the Aventon Aventure.2 electric bike. Torque sensors measure how much force you’re putting into the pedal and provide a dynamic and proportional amount of assistance in response. This design results in a much smoother and more natural ride feel than cadence sensing.

Torque sensing also uses energy more efficiently, meaning the new Aventure.2 has a maximum range of 60 miles compared to the 45-mile range of the previous generation.
The other major upgrade is the dropout-integrated taillights with indicator signals that add style and boost the bike’s safety profile.
Unfortunately, Aventon conceded an extra four pounds for the new build, meaning an already heavy bike is now even heavier. Additionally, the Altus drivetrain is one step below the Acera used previously.
Aventon Aventure.2 Review: Frame, Fork, and Geometry
Like the previous generation, you can purchase an Aventon Aventure.2 step-thru or step-over frame, each of which comes in two sizes: regular and large. The step-thru model fits riders 4’11” to 6’1″, and the step-over fits 5’3″ to 6’4″.
Aventon uses the same 6061 aluminum frame for the new model, featuring characteristic smooth welds, tidy integration, and easy-access electronics and cabling. The incredible 400-lb payload capacity highlights the strength of this frame.
Regardless of the frame you choose, the Aventure has relatively upright geometry for an off-road adventure-style e-bike. You’ll feel relaxed yet stable at high speeds, but don’t take this bike on steep and technical trails, as it’s too heavy and the geometry isn’t suitable.
The Aventure.2 has the same 80mm suspension with lockout, which helps smooth out bumpy roads and gravel paths. That said, it doesn’t really add to the suspension effects of the fat tires, which absorb most of the vibrations and impacts. Given that, we’d prefer to see a rigid fork on the next generation to help reduce the weight.
Finally, the new Aventon Aventure.2 step-thru is available in Cobalt Blue and Midnight Black, while the step-over comes in Slate Gray or Camouflage.
Aventon Aventure.2 Motor and Battery
The Aventon Aventure.2 motor and battery are the same for the new generation, including a 750W (1130W peak) hub motor with 80Nm of torque and a 720Wh battery.
Despite the heavy weight of the Aventure.2, this motor has no problem reaching its top speed of 20mph on the throttle in under 10 seconds, even when riding up a slight incline. Likewise, you can quickly reach 28mph in Turbo mode.
This system also has plenty of power to pull you up steep inclines when riding off-road and to haul enormous cargo loads when taking advantage of the 400-lb capacity.
Aventon Aventure.2 has a 60-mile range, which is a 15-mile improvement over the previous model, thanks to the torque sensor.
The Aventon Aventure.2 battery is a 48V, 720Wh unit that integrates cleanly into the downtube and can be charged in the bike in roughly four to five hours. Thankfully, they designed the battery for side access instead of the more common and often frustrating bottom access.
The switch to torque sensing stretched the max range to 60 miles from 45 on the previous generation, despite the extra four pounds. You can expect up to 30 miles of throttle-only range.
Finally, you can access the Aventon Aventure.2 motor and battery settings by connecting to the Aventon application on your phone via Bluetooth.
Components and Accessories
The Aventon Aventure.2 fat tire bike comes with a typical set of components for the sub-$2,000 price range.
Firstly, you get a Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain with trigger shifters, an 11-32t cassette, and a 46t chainring, providing just enough range to pedal at the top speed of 28mph. This drivetrain is a step down from the first generation’s Acera, but the difference isn’t perceptible.
As mentioned, this e-bike now has Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with the same 180mm rotors. This brakeset gives you plenty of stopping power for riding in varied conditions with a heavy bike.
The Aventon Aventure.2 eBike has the same all-terrain fat tires with puncture resistance and a relatively comfortable set of touchpoints.
The bike now has a full commuter setup of alloy fenders, a 55-lb capacity rear rack, and LED lights. Finally, the company plans to release a range of Aventure.2 accessories, including a front rack and custom accessories for the new rear rack.
Ride Feel and Suggested Use
The Aventon Aventure.2 eBike takes a big step up on its predecessor. Adding a torque sensor alone would drastically improve its value, but the company went even further by reducing the price and improving or adding additional components.
The torque sensing gives the Aventure.2 a smooth, natural power transfer and a higher-end ride feel. While it doesn’t fully replicate the experience of a mid-drive, it’s not far off. If you’re looking for a true mid-drive motor, check out the Aventon Ramblas, a proper eMTB that features a powerful system ideal for conquering steep terrain.
Riding this bike on pavement or light gravel is a joy. Massive 4″ tires and 80mm of fork suspension take the sting off bumpy surfaces and provide tons of grip. However, if you venture onto more technical trails, the low-end fork doesn’t hold up to impacts, and the relaxed geometry isn’t very stable.
The Aventure.2 is ideal for commuting and urban transport but also performs well for light mixed-terrain touring with its high payload capacity and powerful electronics.
Those who want a workhorse e-bike for weekday commuting and weekend adventuring will appreciate the Aventure.2.
