On January 18th, California-based electric bike brand Ride1UP dropped a new model: the Revv 1.

The Ride1UP Revv 1 moped-style eBike is available as a hardtail or with full suspension and follows last year’s releases of the Prodigy and Cafe Cruiser, taking the brand’s offering to seven.

The Ride1UP Revv 1 electric bike breaks free from the relatively uniform commuter-focused designs of the other six, showing the brand’s ambition to reach more riders and continue moving forward and innovating.

The Revv 1 enters a relatively small market of moped-style electric bikes, dominated by brands like Juiced Bikes and Super73, and looks to compete on value and style.

This Ride1UP Revv 1 review is a deep dive into the design characteristics and specs in anticipation of the bike being sent out for testing and shipped to buyers.

Ride1UP Revv 1 Main Specs:

  • MSRP: $1,895 (hardtail) / $2,395 (full-suspension)

Ride1UP Revv 1 Review

Moped-style eBikes take their design from the mini motorbikes of the 1980s and 90s. This electric bike style has surged in popularity over the past few years, which explains Ride1UP’s decision to join in on the action.

In addition to the unique look, Moped eBikes are characterized by their small-diameter wheels, wide tires, suspension, and powerful motors, all of which Ride1UP has used.

Again, you can buy the Ride1UP Revv 1 moped electric bike as a full suspension or hardtail model. The two builds will feel notably different to ride, with the additional rear suspension providing a superior ride quality.

The Revv 1 is the perfect choice for riders who want the practicality of an urban e-bike and the excitement of a powerful performance machine.

With a 750W, 90Nm motor, you can use the entirety of its 400-lb weight capacity, crush steep hills, and sail along at the Ride1UP Revv 1’s top speed of 28mph.

Ride1UP Revv 1 Frame Design and Suspension

As mentioned, this bike is available with a hardtail (HT) or full-suspension (FS) frame. Either way, the look is strikingly similar. The frame is a durable alloy designed to handle extra weight and power. Although the Ride1UP Revv 1 weight is high, it’s within the normal range for the moped e-bike category.

Both frames are beautifully designed, boasting Ride1UP’s characteristic simplicity and attention to detail. In our opinion, the Revv 1 eBike is the most attractive moped-style model on the market with tidy electronics and sleek coloring, particularly the Graphite Gray finish (Moss Green is also available).

We recommend getting the full-suspension model (pictured above), as the rear suspension will make a huge difference in ride quality and comfort.

The Revv 1 HT uses a 100mm air fork with rebound adjustment and hydraulic lockout. The lack of rear suspension on a moped-style eBike like this may be uncomfortable on bumpy terrain as your weight sits relatively far back.

The FS build has a unique double-crown 120mm air fork with preload and rebound adjustments and hydraulic lockout. The rear shock is a DNM AOY-38RC unit with the same adjustments and unspecified travel. The full suspension design lends itself to the high speeds and weight of moped e-bikes, so we imagine it will be the most popular choice when the Revv 1 starts shipping.

Finally, this model is available in one size, fitting riders between 5’2″ and 6’4″.

Motor, Battery, and Display

The Ride1UP Revv 1 e-bike runs on a 52V system and has a 750W Bafang geared hub motor. A torque rating of 90Nm is unusually high for a 750W motor and contributes to a more powerful and capable ride that’s quick off the mark.

Moped-style e-bikes are meant to be exciting to ride, and while the Revv 1’s electronics aren’t exactly high-performance for the category, the 52V battery and controller mean you’ll have no problem cruising at the top speed of 28mph.

The Revv 1’s battery sits neatly in front of the saddle on the top tube. The HT model gets 780Wh of juice, and the FS gets an impressive 1,040Wh, a significant part of the $500 price difference.

Ride1UP doesn’t specify a difference between the expected range for both bikes, listing 30 to 60 miles for both. The added weight and decreased efficiency from the rear suspension likely cancel out the gains from the larger battery.

Finally, the Revv 1 has a sleek 3.5″ bike computer mounted in the center of the handlebars with a two-tone display, customizable settings, and detailed ride metrics (including wattage/RPM bar).

Ride1UP Revv 1 Componentry and Accessories

The Ride1UP Revv 1 has a set of components typical of moped electric bicycles. The only differences between the HT and FS builds are the tires, battery, controller, and suspension.

Both builds come with 20-inch mag wheels, powerful four-piston hydraulic disc brakes, and a single-speed drivetrain, which means you’ll have a limited ability to pedal when riding uphill. Other shared components include a cafe-style saddle, anti-slip grips, hardened alloy fenders, and powerful lights.

The 120-lux taillight has high and low beams, while the rear light has turning signals and brake light activation. These are invaluable safety features for urban riding.

Both setups have puncture-resistant 4″ fat tires, but the hardtail Revv 1 has Kenda Krusade off-road tires with deep tread compared to the slicker and more efficient moto-style CST Scout eMoped tires on the FS build.

Finally, you can transform the Revv 1 with accessories such as a storage cage for the main triangle, a set of foot pegs and a rear handle for a second passenger, or a rear rack for carrying cargo.

Our Verdict: Ride or Pass?

It’s too early to say for definite, but we’re confident that the Ride1UP Revv 1 Class 2 eBike will be a hit in the moped e-bike market, going off what we know about the brand’s products and the enjoyment and value they offer.

The Revv 1 won’t be as high-performance as some other moped electric bikes, but the price is competitive, the design is stylish and refined, and the components are solid for the price range.

We appreciate that Ride1UP has provided two builds to suit different budgets, but we foresee the full-suspension model being the most popular.

Overall, the new Ride1UP Revv 1 moped-style eBike is a timely and exciting release by one of the hottest companies in the industry, and we’re excited to see how riders rate it when it starts shipping in April.
