If you are looking for an electric bike that can handle any terrain and challenge but doesn’t break the bank, you might want to check out the Engwe X26 ebike.

This is a foldable e-bike that features a 1000W motor, dual battery capacity of 1400 Wh, and a triple suspension system. It promises to deliver a powerful, smooth, and comfortable ride, with a 31 mph top speed.

But is it really as good as it sounds?

Foldable Frame with Triple Suspension

The Engwe X26 ebike boasts a foldable aluminum frame with triple suspension that’s, unfortunately, available in only one color.

In theory, you should be able to fold the bike for storage or transportation, but that’s going to be difficult unless you’re a muscular guy.

The triple suspension consists of a front suspension fork and two shocks, one supporting the middle section and the other supporting the rear of the bike.

The Engwe X26 ebike is a good mix of speed and comfort. It has a foldable frame and is quite strong for its low cost.

Depending on where and how you ride, this can either be overkill or your favorite feature on the X26. However, unless you ride on rough off-road or urban terrain, this suspension setup will just add unnecessary weight.

But there’s no doubt that the Engwe X26 delivers on its promises—it’s fast, unique, and very comfortable.

1000W Motor and 1400 Wh Dual Batteries

The best feature of the Engwe X26 for most people is going to be its electronics. This is an ultra-powerful ebike with a big motor and even bigger batteries.

The rear hub motor has a 1000W motor nominal power with 70 Nm of torque and up to 1200W of peak power. Therefore, you can expect it to easily reach the advertised 31 mph top speed, climb steep hills, and carry load.

Such a potent motor draws a lot of energy, so Engwe Bikes decided to equip the X26 with dual batteries (48V 19.2 Ah & 10 Ah) with a total capacity of around 1400 Wh. However, the maximum range is around 60 miles, which is enough for a couple of days’ worth of riding, but not impressive. Though you can’t expect more considering the high motor power.

What we also like is the large full-color display that shows you all the most important ride metrics, including the remaining battery shown in percentages.

Decent Entry-Level Components

In terms of components, Engwe didn’t cut corners but didn’t splurge either. You get decent entry-level components that will get the job done.

Namely, the drivetrain consists of an 8-speed Shimano Altus derailleur and you also get basic 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes which may be underpowered considering the weight and top speed of this ebike.

In our opinion, the X26 should come with 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes that would offer enough stopping power in all riding conditions.

On the other hand, we like the one-piece wheels that lower the weight, simplify maintenance, and look cool as well.

Basic Ebike Accessories

If you’re looking to buy an ebike that’s fully equipped for commuting and riding in all weather conditions, then Engwe X26 may not be the right choice for you.

When it comes to accessories, it only comes with front and rear lights (automatic) and a kickstand. It lacks fenders, which you will need to purchase separately if you want to ride in wet weather.

The integrated rear rack with a passenger seat has a 55 lb carrying capacity, which is only enough for a child. However, that would be unsafe as there are no foot pegs or a wheel skirt, so we’re not sure why it’s even there.

Engwe X26 Limitations

All affordable ebikes come with some downsides and Engwe X26 is not an exception. While this is a powerful and fast ebike that offers a lot for the $2,000 price, it has some limitations.

Firstly, it comes with one charger and two batteries, so it takes 6-8 hours to charge both of them. The batteries can only work independently, so you need to plug the secondary battery in when the primary battery runs out of juice.

The suspension is heavy and has minimal travel, so even though the bike is capable of tackling off-road terrain, you shouldn’t expect it to be trail-ready.

Even though the Engwe X26 ebike is powerful and comfortable with its three suspensions, it’s heavy and takes a long time to charge.

While we like the bike overall, we’d love to see an X26 V2.0 with at least some of these downsides addressed by Engwe.

Who Should Buy the Engwe X26 Ebike?

The Engwe X26 Ebike is a solid choice if you’re seeking a powerful, all-terrain capable, and comfortable electric bike that offers good value for money.

With a 1000W motor, dual battery capacity, and a triple suspension system, this ebike is designed to deliver a smooth and robust ride, so you won’t be disappointed in that regard.

However, its weight and the need for strong brakes due to its high speed are potential drawbacks. Furthermore, the bike’s suspension is heavy and not ideal for trail riding, and charging both batteries can be time-consuming.

The Engwe X26 ebike has a lot of strong features for its price, making it a good choice if you need power. However, it’s heavy and may not be the best choice for off-road biking.

Therefore, while the Engwe X26 all-terrain e-bike boasts power and uniqueness, it may not be suitable for those who prioritize lightweight design or require a bike ready for off-road trails.

But if you’re on the hunt for a reliable, strong, and resilient e-bike, then you can’t go wrong with the Engwe X26 Ebike.
